Hello MNS,

I've just bought a pack of Critical Haze from Dr Chronic. Lovely shiny and silver.

I plan to germ them all at the same time, sex them and keep the fems as seed mummies. Then a quick indoor grow to find the biggest, fattest, juiciest haze pheno for my greenhouse next summer. Unwanted phenos will be flowered to abandonment. Cuts will be taken in spring.

This will be my millionth haze grow, I am running Mango Haze right now but have already selected my keepers (Mrs Sweet and Hazey-as-a-Motherfucker! and a few others to experiment with) and I am good (modesty is a great thing.)

BUT - I have never grown a haze plant outdoors or in the greenhouse before, so this will be something new for me. For a UK grower who RELIES on the summer crop, haze plants are just so far off the scale of 'not in a million years' that it isn't funny. Despite that, I intend to dedicate my whole greenhouse to the CH. I've sacked all ideas of early crops/auto-flowerers now..

My aim for next summer is to prove to myself and other UK growers that Haze is a viable crop with huge yields. I know it is possible in Spain (I've heard the stories) but is it possible in the UK? Should I try a cut outdoors, too? Or is that asking too much, over here?

Has anyone grown CH outdoors or in a greenhouse in the UK? What did you find? I'm just so excited about this one. (They had Early Skunk/Haze too but I just have Critical Haze in my head right now) I just can't wait. Any advice from UK, Dutch or Canadian growers out there? There's so much Afghan in there I probably needn't worry..

I'm happy for you, Grover;)...these are exciting times:D...wish you all the best...jay:)

Nice GS,

Exciting strain indeed. In a green house you should be fine. I think if you can get one of the early harvesting pheno types you should have no problem putting one or two outside of the greenhouse as well. I would just put them in pots in case you need to move them due to rain or frost.

I never grew this strain but also purchased them and hope to flower them indoors soon. Still havn't even riped the bag open yet.

One thing with my greenhouse grow was that I wanted to put in a 4" in-line fan attached to a carbon scrubber not sure if you have one already.

I also wanted to put a small heater in the space (do you have one) to be able to flower out 14 or 16 week strains.

I live in T.O as you know and we usally get our first frost in early October.

Keep us all posted on the progress and hope you pull both phenotypes.

Chana Don

P.S. Take a look at my 2007 greenhouse grow.

nice 1 GS,
I share your excitement, just dropping mine in now.
my plans are quite similar to yours, a green house and an outdoor guerilla grow:D all next year of course. keeping my grow show going with some indoor action untill then.

Hey guys, thanks for your support (JB - I KNEW you'd be feeling the vibes :) I'm definitely expecting JKP to pop by and say hello, too)

CM, BL - I think that it's great you are running the same variety as me. Lots of mutual support, comparisons and tips to come, I feel.....:D

CM - I had a look through your albums. They are great viewing. I love your indoor set-up - it really is proper! I wish the laws here allowed for me to have similar albums but alas indoor pictures will be a rarity for me...

You did a great job with your greenhouse, too. I think that CH is the perfect variety for the greenhouse, for all of us...

I DO have an internal heater in my greenhouse, which allows me to run things much later into the year (I still have some plants in there now...waste of space otherwise, right? They don't do brilliantly this time of year but I get a little bit....) I love your idea of an in-line fan, too. I will explore that next year as it really will stop things getting hairy when the temps start falling outside and the condensation starts to form...Our frosts actually come about a month later than yours, too. I am going to take your advice and run TWO phenos...

one really early one for outdoors (in pots, as you suggest - I have sourced 113litre paint mixing buckets from a local hardware store for less than 10GBP each...No chance of restricting any roots in those! A few quickly drilled holes will soon convert them! This way I will be able to follow the sun and move plants around cold pockets, etc...In the ground is ALWAYS more fun but much less adaptable... )

and one much longer running, more hazey one for the greenhouse. This way I will have more variety at the end of the year, indica and sativa, and also be able to make judgements about which to run again....

I'll keep you posted.

Good Luck All, Once again - thanks for the support..

Billy - I've just been reading through your Critical Haze thread and it would seem that you are aiming for some kind of record. Hmmm. I have now decided to put at least one plant in the ground, in my 'special' place, just to see about that record...(it's not that I'm competitive or anything like that but COME ON!!!:D)

So far I have managed just over a kilo from a plant in that place (about 2.3 pounds, I reckon) It was a great summer and everything went right but you never know.......

I may have to go out this afternoon and start prepping the ground for next year...

Hey GS,
not that competitive either, dont have the tree room any more:mad:, but looking for local folks who are willing to use my hydro designs and indoor setup and let me share pics of there work;) I know I can pull large amounts (20-30oz/plant) indoor - I've done it! outdoor next year will be new ground for me tho. got my areas located on google earth, and planning to also start turning soil this side of frosty weather, got a years worth of kitchen compost ready:)
Peace
BL
p.s.
going for the whole critical family next year - mass, haze, and skunk:D

Hello all -

quick update on the ol' Critical Haze's....

8 lovely ladies from a silvery pack of joy.

All just coming into flower now. Various heights from very small to large-for-an-indica. All look healthy and happy. Not too bushy and not to tall and stretchy. In fact, quite easy for indoors. If this IS a Haze plant then it is the easiest I have come across. I have my eye on 1 or 2 of these girls as potential keepers but I haven't ruled out any of my babies yet...

I just inherited a cache of critical haze

just gotta grow the buggers first, theyre all rooted in little pots.

what a happy day, shame iv run outta heating oil n my house is only 13 degrees

still, I can be blissfully cold! bbbrrr:eek:

All Criticals in flower now. They started budding very fast. Mango Haze clone, in with them, is still just playing with the idea of flowers at the moment, even though she went in at the same time and she is a clone and Criticals are all seedlings.

I did want to use the seedlings as mums and flower clones of, but I lost a week or two of grow time for one reason or another and wanted to catch it up.

All are in 35 litre buckets, which seem fine for all except one, who is starting to show the 25% Haze inside of her with unrivalled stretch and vigor! She needs at least a 55 to 60 litre bucket for her full structure to be allowed to develop as a scaffold for a HUGE yield, in my opinion. She is almost as tall as Mangoctopussy (the Mango Haze in there with her...)

I have no real phenotypic information to post as of yet but the breakdown is thus:

1 REAL big beauty. Astounding growth vigour. Fair to good stretch. Quick to flower.

4 Medium lovelies. Great growth vigour. Some stretch. Quick to flower.

1 nice girl. Smallish but good structure and health. Not bushy. No real stretch. Quick to flower.

1 little shitter. No vigour. No stretch. Not bushy. Healthyish. Not really quick to flower. (Oh why are you behaving this way? How have I upset you?)

1 abandoned female. I didn't like the way she was looking at me. I chose to abandon her for no real reason, which proves that she was unlucky. Good riddance. Probably the thirteenth seedling to crack, too. Bitch.

8 Males. All cunts. Kicked them in the balls and spat on their faces. Dead now.

Having looked through the Critical Haze growlog section, there aren't really any good finished logs or photos of the finished plant. I'll at least keep a log and post 1 photo of a finished plant, if I get there.

Oh that was a good laugh! I cant think of anything to say I'm still laughing...and I can..... or because I can relate. Think I'll pull up a chair and take some lessons. Ive had this room I have now 8 years come April only empty once for 2 weeks (hada fright) and not only never grown a haze, I've not even smoked any.
But all this talk is making me really haze hungry. How is it for trouble sleeping?

Hey JP,

Yeah, I suppose that last post was a bit extreme! Glad it made you smile, though...:)

The haze is a lovely sativa, when you get her right.
A good haze has a certain electricity to it, an unrivalled buzz - up up up!
The taste is fresh and zingy - it can be very sweet but with a sharp slap.
The thing with the haze is that, on its own, it is not really a choice as it is an impossible indoor specimin - it never stops stretching and takes months to finish (if it ever does...). Even the smallest bit of light during the dark cycle and it hello mrs fluffy-bud (not that the haze buds aren't already fluffy..)

Because of this, you will only find it in hybrids (well, you can buy it pure but don't bother...) The differences in these hybrids is astounding. The different ones have totally different highs and tastes, yields and flowering times.
I suppose growers buy different ones for different reasons, the critical haze being a more commercial variety (due to its potential size) but also with a more indica hit to it (from the Critical Mass, as you will know too well!)
Even within varieties, the phenos can be very different (Mango Haze being a good example) in tastes/times and highs.

I suppose the more 'Hazey' pheno haze plants would be TERRIBLE for helping sleep disorders!

With the more complicated hybrids, like Critical Haze, I think the haze is just used as a little bit extra to the original variety...I suppose Critical Mass is a heavy indica with a lot of stone and not too much high. Maybe if you wanted something which got you just as stoned but had a little more 'interest' or 'creativity' in the high, the haze 'twist' in the Critical Haze would provide that. Of course there is always a trade off, with the slightly longer flowering times of the Critical Haze compared to the Critical Mass, the slightly taller plants and the slightly reduced yields all being the price you have to pay.

It's a price I am more than willing to pay, even though this grow is a medicinal one, with yield being a large factor, I still want to get 'high' when I smoke and not just be knocked out - and I want that for anyone else who smoke any herb I grow, too.
You know the difference between feeling weed in the knees and feeling it in the head...?

I think something which has a lot of afghani in it, like Critical Haze, would still be good for sleeping but avoid anything with more than, say 25% Haze. I know the Afghan/Haze is 50% Haze and will have good phenos in it for sleep but some phenos in it won't be good for that at all, I would imagine (not having grown it). Crossing it with a heavy indica, like CM probably vastly increases the likelihood of you finding what you are looking for.

Only one word of warning, though....haze hybrids can be fussy and hard to grow. Critical Haze, in particular, is a hybrid of two already pretty complicated or fussy hybrids (Afghan/Haze and Critical Mass) and can be very picky with you if you so much as look at her wrong...

My CHs are rocketing along, 1 in particular being spectacular, but 6 of the 8 (and thank god that doesn't include the real beauty) have proved to be very fussy. My grow is going REAL smooth. So far no real problems at all, yet each time I feed them even the slightest bit of N these 6 girls throw out 2 hermie balls each on their bottom branches [Blitz - my HUMBLEST and SINCEREST apologies - I never should have doubted you]. Easy enough to remedy - pull them off and hold back on the N then grow cuts from the 2 less fussy girls next time around....but not for the faint hearted, inattentive gardener! (I know you are not like that from reading your CM log - sounds like you have been working too hard, in fact! But there's the warning anyway...)

If you like a bit of 'high' with your 'stone' and you enjoy at least a little gardening then you could do worse that look at one of these 25% Haze hybrids...Critical Haze/Master Kaze/Early Haze/ASH all have plenty of Afghani genetics in them for you to search through for a keeper..each with a different lean (yield/medicinal quality/finishing time/taste and high.)

Anyway, thanks for spending time reading my rubbish!!

Take Care

GS

Sleep Disorders aside, the best smoke you will ever EVER encounter is the Super Silver Haze (12 week pheno.)

Its explosive and lasts for hours and hours. You just buzz for 4 hours and hope you don't meet the village priest just after 3 bongs or he thinks you've been possessed by the devil and have become mad!!!(Yes - that happened, though in the mountains in Cyprus, not in South East England...) He hugged me for about 5 minutes and I thought he was going to cry. I couldn't tell him that I was having the time of my life buzzing like a fucker....I have to say that I did know him well (we were pretty much best mates) but he had so much love that he would hug pretty much anybody he thought was sad. A real hippy. I was perpetually high and he was perpetually holy but we acted exactly the same - people in the village thought we were spiritual brothers! He would have made a PERFECT stoner/grower (but I'd be a SHIT priest!)

Wierd things happen when you smoke the Super Silver Haze and if you haven't ever tried it you must, ASAP. There really is NOTHING like it (whatever anybody tries to tell you) It is a growers, smokers, dealers joy. It has everything and tastes like nothing else. To be honest I don't know why I bother with anything else, really - just curiousity, I guess - I'll probably just go back to the SSH soon and be done with it!

well i've grown the Critical Haze and can say that most pheno's are great for sleep trouble if you take em an extra week after they are ready...there are a few pheno's that are much better suited for daytime as they are a bit more uplifting and energetic but for the most part from my own experience its a great hybrid for sleep disorders and helps to calm my pain level down while keeping me functional

Suffering from sleep disorders myself, I agree 100% with your comments...your SSH story was pretty entertaining too...I think you are a priest of sorts...jay:)

hey guys

This is gonna sound wacked, way out there and crazy but...

I suffered from a sleeping disorder for years YEARS.

I tried many things, alcohol - it works, girls - not so great for sleeping, if u no wat i mean! even drugs

Then i bought a new and pretty good bed and mattress

d'you know what...no sleeping disorder

my advice
knock the obvious things off your list first

cb:)

What?

I've never heard of a mattress curing insomnia...I'd love to know what mattress you got...I'm on the market for one right now and I'd appreciate the help...jay:D
