Here are some pictures of high times magazine circa 97-99.
If someone were trying to identify for instance the White Rhino Cup winning phenotype, they might find these pictures useful ;)

Big Bud

I remember getting Rhino bud about 5 or more years back. It looked exactly like the first picture of the "square" bud. I mean you would swear it was a clone.

The smoke was incredible :), It gave me a new respect for Afghan varieties after that. This smoke was hard hitting, sleepy and the tolerance buildup was slow. That was something I had found about Afghan varieties in the past, quick tolerance build-up..Not this one! Awesome

I also find it interesting how the second Rhino picture is of a more pointy bud. A different phenotype. The cool thing is, they both won a cup.

Dude.... Bringing back memories of my first encounters with High Times.

Awesome stuff, Seed Collector. Thank you for posting!

Stay Hazed,

I'm glad somebody is enjoying

Today's vintage bud comes via Cannabis Culture magazine 1999.

Without further ado, I present you with (drum roll please) . . .

Maple Leaf Indica

Haze

Old School Haze. Picture of the old Marc Emery seed catalogue showing a plant just called haze. I believe this to be Nirvana's haze. It looks like it at about the time buds start showing (you know, about 6-7 weeks into flowering) It is still to this day the best I have ever smoked. It ruined me for a good 10 years afterwards. Everyone I knew got REALLY sick of me saying. "meh, it's OK but it's no haze that's for sure" I got depressed because I couldn't seem to find this again

I still know it's the best I've had. (Never had NL5haze or any 'DAM haze etc). But I had to let it go, I had to move on. I had mourned long enough. Anyway long story short. Electric. that's the word to describe it. The high came in waves long after you had smoked it. first a grin, then you enter outer-space and stay like that for a couple hours. come down is soft and gentle, ebbing and flowing. The high sticks with you for pretty much the whole day. Just when you think it is gone. BAM. You find yourself thinking damn I am still really high. It was great for enjoying nature, or music.

The tolerance build-up was non-existent and there was no ceiling. It was tricky to dose correctly because the come-on was so delayed. My lady had some indica in her and in time I got used to having two bowls and hitting the sack, when I closed my eyes I would get visuals, like flying through the stars. Kind of like the spins, but not spiralling downward and constantly faster. Just flying straight through space at what seemed a reasonable pace. I would drift off to sleep every night watching the light show in my head while the small percentage of indica took over.

Man I feel like I'm going to go back to saying meh it's alright, but it's no haze. dammit! :)

HOLY SHIT BRO! Keepin it old school up in here. Great finds, thank you so much for posting. These are all especially illuminating for some of the younger cats like myself who weren't quite of age when all this was goin on lol. Any thing else is incredibly welcome.

Very nice! The first two rhino pics defiantly remind me of the rhino back in the day. The second picture seems to look like the rhino I encountered the most, the lighter colour and tan look to it. The first pic seems darker, more afghan dominant, looks, awesome! Thanks for the pics! Sensient

Love the old school white rhino. I still have access to a clone from 97. It tucks you into bed every time but wake up a couple hours later with chronic munchies, another bong or 2 and straight back to bed. Also relieved me of back pain better than any pharmaceutical drugs. It looked identical to the photo posted here.

Great thread

A big smile on my face to see those. Lots of memories from those days in SoCal. Thanks for jogging that part of my foggy brain.
