below is a copy of my recent post in the t5 thread.

pl-l's are a remote ballasted CFL with u shaped tubes, think T5 but folded in half.

...these are 55watt bulbs, the 36watters, and all the other lower wattage bulbs, are shorter but otherwise identical.

................................................. ................................

...fluoro's are great but limited in intensity so flowering large, well vegged plants under fluorescent lights will result in scrawny plants with disappointing yields.

...on the other hand, if you grow many smaller plants in a SOG you can grow some serious buddage.

...i'd also like to mention pl-l's again as I believe them to be a superior alternative to T5's being in my opinion more powerful and more versatile.

...as pl-l's are relatively new and many may be unfamiliar with them I share here some links to threads by some gifted growers killing it in some very cool ways.

superpedro's 330watt pl-l aero scrog

Garuda's 110watt pl-l SOG

Anti's MicroStealth 4000 pl-l cab grow

Tilt's 550watt vertical pl-l grow

The PLL-L club

the "high-pod"

...anyway, these are just a few, if you care to look you will find MANY more.

Peace, SOG

Lumens per watt are more or less constant with CFL bulbs.

Take a look at these self-ballasted induction bulbs:Self Ballasted Induction Lamps (23W - 40W)

This technology produces allot of photosynthetic light. It's probably 2nd only to plasma and the price is competitive with HID lighting.

I haven't used them myself but I would personally buy these before I bought CFL so I thought I'd show 'em to 'ya.

Induction lighting is fluorescent but they are tri-phosphorus with mercury vapor is what makes them different.

Peace.

The spot has a curly bulb inside it. You pay extra for it because it has it's own little built-in reflector. The CFL has more lumens per $.

Peace.

CFL's are great for veg and keeping mother plants. Just check the lumens. As log as you're using around 2500 lm per square foot then you're good. You also wanna check the colour or kelvin or what ever it's called. 6500k is the right one for decent growth. I know this coz I veg with cfls.

For flowering, forget cfl's. You want something with a bit more juice in flower (HID lighting). But I'm sure you know that winter right?

Peace
