Default Bad bulb or not?

Need input on this bulb. The arc tube looks intact. Where the cathodes enter the arc tube look burnt a little. Did the bulb blow. My gf said she heard a popping sound. Lol. I think it was the timer shutting off...heres photos.... Why is it yellow in the middle of the arc tube?

Light is a 1000 eyehortilux blue mh. Thanks in advance

That's a bummer...

If you run the light, I would definitely get a backup bulb. If it blows out in the middle of flowering, you don't want to wait 2 weeks to order and have shipped to you, a replacement ...
Same if you notice hotspots or the like due to the faulty bulb. Can't/won't want to wait for a replacement.

But honestly. I wouldn't mess with it.

Never heard of the horror stories of exploding HPS bulbs?
If you are lucky enough to not be in the room when it happens (which is quite likely), you still have to deal with tiny, tiny glass shards every frikkin where...
No fun to try and get all of that out of your budding plants, pots, room as a hole ...

It's usually not worth the risk...

I had a 15+ year old magnetic ballast that ran for two grows, no more. So basically like new. But it hadn't been used and had been in storage for 15 years ...

I was seriously considering running it anyway, as it was among the only things I could still use from my last time growing all that time ago.
But when I talked to the guy in the growshop and asked him if he thinks it is fine or if I should get a new one, he looked me dead in the eye and was like "Dude, sure it could run fine, but it is a magnetic ballast, lots of electricity running through that, lots of heat, etc. ... a new magnetic ballast is what, 40 bucks? Not trying to make a sale here but what is 40 bucks in the grand scheme of things compared to the risk of burning down your growroom/house?".

And I want to say he was right
