Default Clones from seedlings

Can anyone advise on taking cuttings from the first growth from seed. My plant grown from seed is a straightbup straight down sort of plant with no branches or nodes to take from..just one stem that will bud and leaves. I would like to keep this grapefruit plant going by cloning...thank you

Hi mate, if you top it by removing the top most growing shoot it should encourage branching from the lower nodes. How old is this plant? If it is less than 4 to 5 weeks old it hasnt had the opportunity to develop branches yet, give it a few more weeks and it should begin to develop branches. You then will able to take a cutting from one of these. Otherwise if it continues going straight up you can just wait until it is tall enough and take a cutting from at least three nodes down from the top.
Good luck

If it has a few sets of leaves you could just top it and root the top. I would probably just do a little bit of LST and clone the branches just a couple weeks you should have some nice growth to clone from. Not sure why anyone would clone a seedling.

Default Step-by-step-instructions-for-pinching-plants-and-rooting-cuttings

  • Choose the plants you wish to grow from a cutting.
  • Using sharp garden secateurs (pruners), snip off shoots from the plant.
  • Strip a half to two thirds of leaves from the lower part of the cutting
  • Prepare propagating medium and insert cutting

I'd definitely wait until some lateral branches appears and the main stem has hardened. Cutting a young seedling may negatively affect your yield, so be careful not to overdo it.

I hope this helps!
