Once the lights are hanging make sure you place a timer between the light and the power point for each light so you can control the turn on turn off without physically having to remember on a daily level. The next thing to sort out is the air movement of the room. In a small room you may only need one oscillating fan set to on all the time to make sure the air circulates and the plants' roots strengthen by air gently moving the young plant. If the room is bigger then diagonally position the fans towards each other so all air is agitated as much as possible. An easy test is to light a cigarette in the centre of the room low down and see how the smoke is moved around. You should be able to light a match without it being blown out by these circulating fans, so test to see if this is the case and adjust the circulating fans to low if you have fans that allow 3 settings. Having options to change the velocity of the circulating air will allow you to regulate the temperature as the seasons change outside.

In a small room it will only be necessary to either leave a gap in the window or the space under the door clear for fresh air to enter. If fresh cooler air enters low down in the room and then an exhaust fan is mounted higher than the lights with a 3 or 5 speed switch you will be able to regulate humidity and temperature perfectly, so think to spend a few euros on this rather than on fancy state of the art lights, since lights can varying in cost depending upon the gimmicks they include, such as air or water cooling for the lamps etc. In the end cool fresh air will be drawn in by the exhaust fan blowing warm or hot air out, which is all a small room warrants.

Remember that if you need to camouflage the smell of the outgoing air you can buy a charcoal filter exhaust fan in one unit and use flexible ducting to direct where the out air will leave the room from, which is also a very important aspect to consider if you live close to neighbors or in an apartment block. Many grow shops stock a few different filters for reducing smells so do a little homework on this according to the use you require. Do not forget that as the flowers get closer to completion the scent inside the room is very aromatic and can wake up sleeping dogs!

Hang a thermostat and humidity meter inside the room but not near the light source. If you want to be very profession hang these meters low and high with a maximum and minimum setting on them so you can see how the room is running when you are not there and in the hours of dark. If you have a bad timer or some electric problem you will be able to read that from temperature and humidity max/min settings.

Finally place a barrel of water in the room with a small pump inside it so it is easy to mix the food in the water or attach a hose to it so you can hand water the plants. Having the water barrel in the same room will mean you use the room temperature to regulate the water temperature so you should never have to heat cold water and waste electricity for that.

Finish the room and run it for a few days before you decide to use it for growing. The reason is it is much simpler and less work to make sure all systems of the room like air, exhaust, temperature, etc. are checked without plants but run as if plants are in there for a few full day cycles. This factor will allow you to begin the new grow knowing your room is in good order so the only things that can go wrong are with the plants or human error. Inevitably you will reduce the unknown factors and things in growing that do go wrong will be easier to pin point.

If you stick to these basic set of principles in setting up an indoor growing room then you will be on the right road to becoming a competent and happy gardener.Nowadays we have the help of the internet which is the most neutral way to gain information, so check out a site that educates by other growers. Success and safety in what you do
