Cannabis Sativa: The Essential Guide to the World's Finest Marijuana Strains

Setting up a small all year grow room

As more people begin to care about quality and supplies of a regular amount of flower production, getting setup in an inside grow room is the only logical step to take. So in this issue of La Dolce Vita we will tackle the task of setting up a small grows room that will be able to work all year round. Not only will this be the best investment, but it will guarantee a healthy production of flowers all year. It will also put you one step closer in understanding natures' ways. Why leave it up to others when you can do it yourself?

Many people get anxious when they are forced to think logically about an issue they are not familiar with, such as a grow room. Yet when you come to think about it most people use plants, vegetables and by products of nature on a daily basis. So rather than fight with things you use daily, why not just sit down and simplify the facts and convert the newly found logic into an operational grow room.?

A grow room is an attempt at recreating climate: temperature, humidity, pressure, air movement and irrigation, in a single simple system all working together to allow any sort of plant a healthy all year round growing environment. So let's break down the component systems into individual units so we can plan a simple and effective grow room. A grow room will be independent of the outside world, but certain knowledge of the outside conditions will be linked to it so this will require us to adjust our grow room according to seasonal change. With this in mind let's begin design of the units that when all put together make up a grow room.

The very first thing is to locate a suitable spot either in a basement area of a house or consider a small outside tool shed, or even a garage for a car. If your only alternative is the attic of a house this will also be fine, remembering that if summertime gets exceedingly hot it maybe better to stop during this period since temperature may not be able to be economically controlled without air conditioning. If you have none of these types of areas available then consider a grow box where it can be in any room that has a free 2msq floor space.

The next step is to clear the space from all furnishings or materials so you are basically left with 4 walls, a floor and a ceiling. Enclose the entire floor with a waterproof material and carry it on up to about half a meter high on all the four walls, effectively making a half meter swimming pool. The use of pond lining which can be bought from good landscape suppliers is best suited as it is thicker than normal plastic and long lasting. Where ever the waterproof material finishes begin to line the walls with either a white black white plastic(which cuts out light loss) or just a plain white plastic. This will allow for reflection and close off any areas that are potential areas of light loss or inlets for insects or animals. If you do the same to the ceiling you will be creating an entirely clean white box with a waterproof floor, making it perfectly sealed from the outside environment. Of course when you are lining the area with plastic make sure you make note of where the power points or windows are so it will be easy to cut them into the room.

Now we have a basic sealed large box which is a perfect way to begin the more technical systems of lighting and air flow. Hanging the lights is best done by screwing hooks into the ceiling spaced according to the size lights/reflectors you are using. But so the lights can move up and down during the plants growth it is best to hang chain from the hooks, this way the caretaker of the room can easily adjust lights as he or she needs to. It is a cheap and perfect solution if you choose to grow several different strains in one small room and need different heights for different sets of plants.
